[Meta] About your missing posts, comments, and Reddit's new spam filter.

    Posted: 07 Dec 2020 12:57 PM PST

    Hi all,

Yesterday, Reddit made unannounced changes to the sitewide spam filter (you can check out everyone angry on r/ModSupport if you're interested). This has caused WAY more posts and comments to be automatically removed by reddit's sitewide spam filter than normal, to the point where we're slightly overflowing with legitimate comments and posts in our spam queue.

As a note, spam queue is when Reddit the website flags a post or comment as spam for moderator review, and mod queue is where subreddit bots and humans (like yourself) send comments and posts for moderator review. We control the latter, we do not control the former.

If your post or comment is missing from the subreddit, we'd like to let you know that it is out of our hands at this time. We'll be going through the spam queue and mass-approving everything until Reddit makes another change or rolls back the stricter spam filter.

If you need your post or comment approved quickly by contacting modmail, and it's been spam filtered, keep in mind that moderators now cannot see your posts or comments from your profile if they've been spam filtered. We need a direct link in order to approve your content, or just be patient and wait for us to clear out spam queue.

Shai mains are oppressed. Change my mind

    Posted: 07 Dec 2020 01:44 PM PST

    I'm going to rant now.

What started as a weak release for the character "Shai", has only gotten worse since then.

People like me who decided to main the new support class since its release continue to get shafted by the game's design.

Not only are there systemic problems in place singling out Shai with pure hatred, but Shai feels trapped because they cannot coupon, auction house, or exchange their awakening weapon to re-roll easily. This makes the costs of choosing and building a main character for so long feel a total waste by re-rolling to another character. My argument for sticking with the racism to Shai has always been that I prefer its playstyle in combat, which I realize is hard to relate to for most.

Note about this post: I'm not going to talk too much about the inputs and animation scuffs riddled in Shai's kit. They exist and are problematic, but they aren't as important.

    Awakening? Not really

Let's start with its unique "awakening" but not awakening quest: The Talent Quest. This is the longest "awakening" quest in the game and ridicules the player in its narrative, having you travel across the entire continent multiple times. At one point it has you learn from literal clowns because you're so bad at even the basics of music you should learn how to be amusing, according to your begrudging master, Artina. This quest takes forever in comparison to the usual "kill these monsters here's your reward" all other classes enjoy. The reward? A fake awakening weapon, a fake awakening "talent" that is no longer unique (as everyone can insta-summon their shai alt to play music for them).

The weapon you receive is basically the equivalent to Dandelion awakening weapon. Receiving this as a freebie is the only perk you will ever receive for playing Shai.

This weapon cannot be exchanged, couponed, auctioned, or anything. It has the same enchant success rates as Dandelion. The cost to get this to PEN is just as much as a Dandelion. And you are stuck with it, and cannot exchange it. Enjoy feeling stuck as the red-headed step-child class that has literally no place in the entire game.

This class has so many unimplemented features that many event loot boxes do not even open for Shai. Fashion lootboxes handed out generously in special events as well as awakening weapons given by the story are worthless if you main Shai.

    The list goes on:

    • Shai isn't considered "Awakened" so we only have 3 skill add-on slots.
    • Shai's awakening weapon has to be enchanted yourself. You cannot trade, exchange, or coupon it.
    • Shai has no BON Skills.
    • None of Shai's skill add-on effects can achieve the maximum level skill add-on effect.
    • Shai is the slowest class in the game. Yes, slower than guardians.
    • Shai has no S block, grab, or meaningful i-frames. Shai has the least protected moves (and the smallest kit) in the entire game.
    • Shai is the worst support class in the game. Its heals are flat numbers (not %hp). Its buffs are tiny AOEs and only last the usual 10 to 30 seconds, and are unprotected. Witch and Wizard steal this role. (More on this later)
    • Shai's skills are scuffed and have many bugs littering them, like being unable to do the protected S+LMB forward guard from talent like you're supposed to.

And when you consider how stuck you are with your silly non-awakened "Artina Sol" weapon:

Class balances continue to generously boost the effectiveness of all other classes except Shai.

Shai gets left behind and will continue to become more worthless with each patch.

Now for the various roles Shai is the worst at:

    PVP

The support role for Shai is badly misunderstood.

Buffs grow in AOE effect range the longer you "channel" them. Since these are unprotected, we don't normally stay channeling these to avoid sure death. The effect range is about the length of the shai's tiny arms. Anyone who insists that Shai is a buff bot is sadly mistaken. Witch and wizard can share their buffs easier and more consistently in a PVP setting than Shai can.

The real reason Shai can help carry teams in PVP is their easy CC provided by channeling super-armor bongos, and by providing super-armor debuff with guitar. A PEN artina sol is a must here, which is a complete waste of time and money.

    But what about DP shais?

Unpopular opinion: The only reason Shais are known for their DP sets is because they have no other role that can suit them. Every class can put on a DP set and do well by being a nuisance. Shai is no exception here. If you compare Shai's effectiveness at crowd control and support, you'd be hard-pressed to choose a DP Shai over a DP Witch or Wizard! The only reason you see less DP Witches is because it's surprisingly difficult to convince a DPS Goddess to put down her weapon and bulk up on armor. It helps that there's misinformation about Shai's buffs being so useful as well.

    PVE

When Shai was released, it was an "OK" PVE character. Now it's next to bottom-rung. Sure, it's still brainless and can survive difficult places with ease compared to most classes, but it's loot per hour is abysmal.

We have addons that give hp per hit, and we hit 43 times with most skills. This makes PVE braindead boring. Our DPS is trash and we have to put in a lot of effort to shine. PEN Artina Sol really helps here, but you'll never outshine a true PVE class (or even half the roster).

    LIFE SKILLING

Life-skilling is not entirely hopeless, but it's better on other characters as well. The only saving grace is our "free2play weight limit" built into our levelling.

I'll touch on why the life-skill passives are hot garbage:

    • Gain 300% combat exp from gathering
    • Gain 300% combat exp from alchemy

This essentially gives you less than 0.001% at level 59 for gathering or alchemy procs.

People get confused and insist it's much better because they forget that processing gives great combat experience to everyone, and always has. Not counting processing experience (combat exp), it would take over a year of actively gathering all day to hit level 60 from 59.

Let's stop pretending Shai is a good life-skiller. The head-start in levels is a non-perk. Anyone can get here in one week with casual play. The passives are trash. Gathering is best done by faster characters. I will only consider weight limit being a factor, the rest is worthless to argue about.

    Conclusion

If I had known that my class choice was not only a complete waste of time, effort, and money, I'd have not played BDO for this long. I'd never predict that I'd feel entirely stuck with a choice.

If you're going to bait people into a class that receives no balancing patches or new features or content, and continues to trail behind...

AND you force them to stay as that class while allowing others to easily re-roll with lower costs...

I feel that burning hatred, step-mom Pearl Abyss.

Being underwhelming is one thing. Being stuck_as a worthless character is another.

    Change my mind.

People with Epheria Carrack, is the grind worth it?

    Posted: 07 Dec 2020 07:17 PM PST

I'm at the point of grinding blue gears for my Epheria Caravel already, but the sheer volume of grinding each resources can be quite overwhelming.

It might take me while ( or a long time ) to grind a full set of Caravel blue gears to +10

So I was wondering now what tips can you give me on how can I efficiently/effectively gather these resources.

I do love this game really, but the intense grinding can sometimes make a casual gamer like me, burnout.

    reference if needed. Prof 9 ( Sailing ) / Skilled 2 ( Bartering ) / 119 ish ship speed ( already disregard old +7 sailboat blue gears )

    • I usually only do dailies for the resources, might use an improved frigate with +6/+7 blue gears if I need that extra speed and damage

Having an issue where shadows on foliage seem to be jittering/shimmering whenever my camera/player moves. It is only evident when on Very High mode but goes away when in remastered. Anyone else experience this?

World boss damage - does it matter?

    Posted: 07 Dec 2020 09:37 AM PST

    Hiya,

I am just wondering if anyone knows is it officially confirmed that dmg you do to world bosses affect the loot you get? I see many people have boss alts but some do bring their mains to world bosses.

In my guild, they guy that has "most luck" is the guy that goes to every world boss with his main hence he does a lot more dmg compared to 56 boss alts.

    Thank you.

LESS busy servers for a potato computer (NA)?

    Posted: 07 Dec 2020 04:53 PM PST

Hey, I just graduated my first character using season servers a couple days ago, and I'm struggling to find consistantly less populated regular servers. Especially for world bosses I'm getting an unusuable low amount of frames with the amount of people showing up.

Any advice/servers to try are appreciated!

    A casual player in doubt...

    Posted: 07 Dec 2020 12:28 PM PST

    Hi folks,

I'm looking for a new game to spend some time on, but I don't really have more than 4/5 hours a week to play. I really dig fantasy (MMO)RPG's, and I have been thinking about playing BDO for some time now. There is one big thing that is holding me back however; everywhere I look on the internet, this game is labeled as not-casual-player-friendly. Is this really the case? To make it a bit more concrete:

    1. Can you enjoy PVP on lower levels (is there some sort of scaling)?
    2. Is there a story to enjoy (without having to worry to much about grinding)?
    3. Is the community helpful?
    4. Can you enjoy the combat on it's grandest scale within the first 50 hours of playtime?

I'm really looking forward to hearing your opinion!

    Greetings,

    Gemeenteridder.
