    Increasing Your Grind Speed

    Posted: 23 Mar 2020 02:25 PM PDT

Just thought I'd share my thoughts on grinding, since I've seen a lot of people on here reporting insanely low silver/hour numbers at spots. Here are some pointers to maximize your silver/hour... disagree if you like: these are only the things I think about when I'm grinding, and I like to think I get pretty good numbers at the spots I routinely grind.

One final note: this advice doesn't apply if you're grinding for SP or EXP, as that is a fundamentally different style of grinding.

    The basics:

    • Set your pets to active (red) to ensure they pick up more frequently.

    • Make sure you have enough AP to efficiently grind the spot. The suggested AP on the map is very unhelpful: look up guides, ask for help, or try it out and see if it feels efficient.

    • Pick a spot that fits your class: not every spot can be grinded as efficiently by every class. As an example, I've found my Witch pulls in far more silver/hour at Fogans than at Nagas, while my DK pulls in far more at Nagas than at Fogans. The layout and density of the packs needs to fit your class, or it'll be awkward and probably slower to grind.

    • Take some time to try different rotations, and give yourself time to learn the nuances to your rotation. I usually see my silver/hour go up by about 20-40% after I've grinded it for 5+ hours. Spots I've grinded for over 40 hours, my silver income has gone up even farther.

There are generally two kinds of spots: quality spots, in which mobs are fewer but drop more loot; quantity spots, in which mobs are abundant but drop less loot.

    • Elite rotations are quality spots; so are spots like Manshaums, Hystria.

    • Nagas/Fogans are examples of quantity spots.

These two kinds of spots are grinded in different ways for most classes.

In a quality spot, pulling packs will dramatically increase your silver/hour:

    • Bait as many mobs as you can aggro, and lead them into another nearby pack. This allows you to drop your big abilities on extra mobs.

    • You probably won't one-shot the mobs, so be sure to use special damage modifiers: if they can be knocked down, use air/down attack; otherwise, be sure to get back attacks.

    • If possible, try to pull your next packs to a spot close to where you killed the previous packs. This allows you to loot the previous pack while setting up your pull. Routing your rotation cleverly allows you to use this technique a lot, particularly in any rotation that is a clean circle.

    In a quantity spot:

    • If your class goes pack-to-pack efficiently, then your pets should always be picking up.

    • If your pets are T1, that's 5000 mobs/hour. At T3, that's about 6666 mobs/hour. Of course, stopping to dump weight is going to reduce this number, and not every spot a rotation with no breaks in mobs, so don't be disappointed if you're not filling up 6500 mobs of Marni stones every hour.

    • To this end, learn your pet's loot cycle. I recommend starting out by waiting until your hear the "chink" sound of all your pets picking up 5 items. As soon as you hear this, move to the next pack, kill it, and then wait.

    • If your pets are all the same level, they should always pick up at the same time.

    • When you can consistently keep your pets looting, then I recommend a general rule of thumb of pressing R once for every 6 mobs in the pack. This increases your silver/hour by up to 20%, unless you have T4 pets. Then this doesn't help.

If you're a class with large AOEs but limited mobility (such as Witch, Wizard, maybe Guardian?) then you probably don't want to go pack-to-pack. Instead, pull as many mobs as you can aggro in between 2-3 other packs, and then AOE them all. Be sure to stick around to loot them all.

Some spots are laid out well enough that you don't really need to put in extra attention, but if you look for opportunities to adjust your rotation, you might be able to pull in a lot more cash!

Feel free to disagree vigorously down below.

Updates USD to silver direct conversion rate

    Posted: 23 Mar 2020 08:47 AM PDT

    *Updated oof
TLDR: US$100 buys (3.38(335,000,000))=1.1323bil silver, so make of that what you will. Some discussion points below if you're feeling read-y

First the math, which I think should be plastered very publicly at all times, including in a disclaimer on the landing page of the BDO website:

[Excludes artisan memories because they are not directly convertible to silver]

3400 pearls for a premium outfit
Premium outfit sells for 335mil duty-free
    $100 buys 10,000 Kcash
    10,000 Kcash buys 11500 pearls
    11500/3400=3.38 outfits per 10,000 Kcash
    10,000 Kcash is $100
    $100 buys 3.38 outfits
    $100 buys (3.38(335,000,000))=1.1323bil silver
    [1bil / 100 = 10 million]
    $1 buys 11.1323 million silver

    Now some discussion:

    Bummers first

    - If you find yourself treating BDO like a job, then, using the lowest estimated livable wage for the US as a baseline, selling premium outfits using $100 Kcash packages outpaces any in-game activity for silver income for your time until you start making 300mil silver per playtime hour. For example, 150mil silver in an hour is a little over $13 worth, which clears some, but not all existing minimum wages in several US cities. 300mil silver in an hour clears the $25 mark, which is one of the more common estimates for a livable federal minimum wage. Few people with this USD income would be inclined or even able to spend $100 in one go on a video game, but those few who probably shouldn't but still would are, I would estimate, the most vulnerable to predatory monetization. Since the math here is optimal specifically for that low income, it seems safe to say the monetization in this case is indeed predatory. I anticipate that you felt that way about it already, but now you have math for it
    - Full PEN armor costs at minimum $5,400, so if you have a friend who has done this, maybe check in on them a bit more
    - This might help explain why a lot of competitive players pay for boosting services. For people who play BDO super competitively like it's a job, actually playing BDO may be financially inefficient, as it would be exceedingly difficult for anyone to reliably make 300mil silver per hour of playtime
    - These calculations also may reveal that BDO's monetization more broadly devalues the game at the user and developer ends. As cash shop items are so valuable in-game, and gear strength is purchasable with in-game currency, actually playing the game is explicitly not the most efficient way to progress. On the developer end, this financial devaluing of gameplay may also discourage creativity, refinement, and striving for excellence, as cash shop items are consistently more financially valuable than in-game mechanics or stories. In this case, the desync on EUNA servers undermining gear strength is a rare equalizer of the value of premium items and the value of in-game systems; if you haven't practiced with your huge gear as much as somebody who has practiced predicting class movement to account for desync, then spending USD won't help you in that fight when you grab a hair too late and the server lag lets them kill you while you think you have them CC'd

    Now cheer ups/chill pills

    - You won't ever make enough silver per hour to outpace somebody who's ready to buy their gear with "real" money. So maybe stop worrying about it. Take your time, make or join a [redacted term that starts with "g"], goof around in this glitchy-ass game with your friends, start some shenanigans on arsha, go scuba diving, try to get into the bandit town without losing crystals or exp, go to a [redacted term that starts with a "g"] boss on a level 16 character, do side quests because they are way better written than the main stories, make up some stories with your and your friends' characters, whatever. The casual life is a pleasant one
    - Actually that's all I got. So I'm open to more ideas

Is the Hedgehog Pet really worth it?

    Posted: 23 Mar 2020 05:59 PM PDT

I heard a lot of good things about the hedgehog pet as it is a must-have for gathering. I want to start doing lifeskill eventually but I'm hesitant to invest in the limited-time pet pack in the Cash Shop. How viable is gathering for making money compared to other life skills? Does gathering translate well into doing other life skills? Will the hedgehog be a good investment down the road for full-time life-skill?

    Archer 2020

    Posted: 23 Mar 2020 10:55 AM PDT

    Hello there,

Been looking for a new main, and I thought archer could be a fun class to play, though i didnt see much info on archer in 2020 only older guides.

Could you tell your experience with archer? Is it not so popular class? What are your pros and cons? How would you rate it in PVE/1v1 PVP/NW PVP ?

    Thanks,

    Ultimate Armor Reform Stone

    Posted: 23 Mar 2020 09:21 PM PDT

Did someone invest into reform stones, they dropped after the suppressed gear dropped and are currently sitting at around 3, 8 - 4 mil, about half price of what it was before, so I thought in longterm I can only make profit if I sell them for 7mil each.

So I bought 100 of them, the first 50 were not so good for 4,14mil each, then about 20 for lowest price 3,6mil and the rest between 3,8 and 4,1 mil each, so I locked my money away and I hope that the reform stones will go up to where they were before, worst case I lose about 15%(with value pack)

Just wondering if anyone else saw the opportunity and if not check it out and tell me what you think

Adventurer's Tome not appearing on Alts?

    Posted: 23 Mar 2020 09:18 PM PDT

Edit: Adventurer's Tome QUESTLINE! The tome appears just fine, but not the questline for the one that boosts combat exp from quests.

So I did the questline for the exp boost tome on my main, hearing that I could do the same on my alts at level 1. I'm not finding it though, did I do something wrong?

Genuinely Asking For Help With Technical Issues

    Posted: 23 Mar 2020 09:11 PM PDT

As the title suggests, I'm asking for some support and help regarding making BDO work on my PC. The issue I'm having is that the game just blinks constantly and I can't even interact with it. I've tried scanning the files multiple times to no avail. I've redownloaded & reinstalled the game thrice but somehow the same issue persists. I also kept a back up copy of the game which I then tried to copy+paste to my folders including the one on the Documents but still nothing. The only message the game directly gave me was that apparently my graphics card isn't good enough for the game.

I've got a pretty decent rig (I think). Here are the specs:
    R5 - 3600 6 Core
    RTX 2070 Galax
    8gb RAM 2666mhz
    500gb SSD

I've already asked the customer service for help but they haven't responded yet. Any help or input or suggestion at all.
