FPS gains for threadripper users (2990wx/2970wx) Posted: 03 Jan 2020 01:44 PM PST Hello There is very popular guide for FPS gains made by /u/AcanadianDude. Sadly, its missing 2990/2970wx processors. I know there is not many TR owners here playing BDO but maybe someone will find this useful via google search. As owner of 2990wx , i was always having isses with BDO. Other games runs quite good consdering low base clocks on this 32core monster but BDO was always different. Full of stutters, low fps, freezes etc. 2990wx isnt even that bad for gaming , read more here https://www.pcworld.com/article/3305360/how-the-32-core-ryzen-threadripper-is-suddenly-a-lot-better-at-gaming.html There is "game/legacy" mode option inside of the Ryzen Master utility which helps in some older or "badly" designed games but for example, in BF5, its like 5-10fps difference between 32core (creator mode) vs 8core 4.2ghz gaming/legacy mode (stock, no tweaks). Game mode basically disables 24 cores so only 8 are running on 4.2gz. In BDO, switching to legacy mode improves general gameplay a bit but its nothing which i would call an improvement. After getting back to BDO i was sick of having 44-50fps on very low mode, high, medium. Basically, switching display quality had no impact on my FPS. Keep in mind that i have GTX1060 but game was always stuttery and in sub 60fps range every time so i decided to read FPS guide. Its quite complex and i dont wanted mess with all those settings because im working as 3D artist and i need stable system so only thing i did was : ​ Grab Process Lasso Check 2990wx layout to see which CCX has direct access to memory. For me its DIE0 and DIE2 ( https://cdn.wccftech.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/AMD-Ryzen-Threadripper-2900_2.jpg ) . Other two CCX are communicating with memory via infinity fabric which means higher latency. Check RyzenMaster for "best cores". They are marked as dot, silver star and yellow star. On the screenshot here you can see that for DIE0, my best cores are 2,4,6 and 8 See here ( https://i.gyazo.com/0dea4c0f9dd4bcc27f0febffd0bb8a46.png ) In process lasso, right click on BDO and set affinity (always), untick all cores and enable only best ones. For me its 2,4,6 and 8 so CPU2,6,10 and 14 in process lasso ( https://i.gyazo.com/b78f1da7dd0ad72ba8c812d5d3bd5115.png ) Main point here is to run game on 4 cores without and threads. Thats it. My FPS went from 30-50 to 120, zero stuttering and gameplay is smooth. I have 80fps stable while grinding in very low/low and 60-70fps stable while grinding on medium/slightly high/high. I have quite weak GPU so people with stronger cards might see higher FPS gains. Remastered needs more cores enabled so if you are playing on remastered, enable rest of the cores except CORE0. Having CORE0 enabled gives me slight stuttering back and its known for Ryzen CPUs to behave like that in other games too. Once you set affinity in process lasso, it will automatically disable cores for you upon start (keep Process Lasso enabled on startup). It works for both modes, creator (32c) mode and legacy (8c) mode. For anything except remastered, running game on 4 best cores and 1 die is enough (for me). I didnt tested running game on DIE0+DIE2 yet and im not even sure if that helps to enable another 4 - 8 cores on another CCX so its up on you to figure things out. Maybe it can help if you play on remastered mode. Legacy mode gives like 20more fps for me but its annoying to restart PC every time to switch modes so i keep game running on 32core mode because im swapping to multi threaded tasks quite often. submitted by /u/AreaDenialx [link] [comments]

I don't grind often, but I do like to grind Trees with my friends when we're in the mood.
