| In Defense of BDO’s Lack of Dungeons and Raids Posted: 10 May 2021 02:21 AM PDT I just recently made the switch back to BDO from playing retail and classic WoW over the past few months. Coming off fresh from WoW, I have some thoughts on BDO's most requested features, dungeons and raids, and why I don't think they drastically improve the game. During my time with WoW, and especially Classic, I spent most of time with buddies, grinding dungeons. At first, each dungeon is novel, with story elements, boss mechanics, and a need for the group to work together to stay alive. Genuinely, great content, the best content that WoW has to offer. That is, until you run the dungeon the 300th time hoping to roll on a piece of loot that you need to progress your characters gear/power. You see, when your game's end game content revolves on the absolute need to do repetitive group content to progress your character, it burns out QUICK. In fact, the only time I would log on after putting several days of playtime into the game, was to run dungeons with my buddies, because the solo questing experience is not great, especially with how boring tab targeting combat can be. To make matters worse, most of the time grouping with randoms to run dungeons ends in disaster. Toxicity, players not adequately playing their role/class, people leaving the dungeon or sniping loot. It's usually never a good experience to go with randos. Yes, BDO is grindy, heck the game's combat exp system makes you grind mobs to progress levels after the soft cap...BUT it's a major difference when the combat is genuinely fun and you don't have to rely on others to enjoy the game and get end game gear. BDO doesn't NEED dungeons or raids, to enhance the experience. BDO is great because you can login and work to your end game goals without ever needing to do group content. Grinding mobs in BDO isn't nearly as painful as grinding the same dungeon over and over again in WoW, hearing the same dialogue and story bit over and over, and hoping to have a good group. Not to mention, BDO has an amazing variety of enjoyable life skills/professions to mix it up. In WoW, if you take the Dungeons and Raids away, it falls apart. Just some thoughts because I see people requesting this content all the time and I just don't necessarily think it will make the game that much better, especially so if players are practically forced to do that content to progress their goals. | Orwen, daughter of Caphras Part 3 (BDO lore) Posted: 10 May 2021 01:20 AM PDT I really like Orwen's story, so I want to share it. :) I'll tell her adventures in multiple parts, this is the third one. I hope people who like the lore will appreciate this post. In the last part we followed Orwen's journey trough the Balenos, Serendia main quest. In this part she returned to Kamasylvia, and wandered into O'dyllita. We don't know what Orwen was doing in Mediah, or in Valencia. (Maybe we'll get some info when the reworked Valencia questline arrives) In 286, the borders of Kamasylvia were opened, by the decree of Brolina Ornette, Queen of Kamasylvia. Orwen was staying in Calpheon at that time, with Lafi Bedmountain, and Yaz. One day, she found a commotion on the streets, when she checked it out, she realized people were flocked together around some products smuggled from Kamasylvia. She hid in a contraband wagon heading toward Kamasylvia, to be able to bypass the border patrols. According to her grandmother's tales, she was deeply connected with the land of elves, so she wanted to look for traces of her father, and wanted to visit Catherine's tomb. She was seen around Kamasylvia, revisiting the places where she used to spend time with Catherine, who told her stories about the Root Realm, and about the spirits. Places like Lake Flondor, Pond Antis, Caduil Forest, Mirumok Ruins, where she met with Martha Kiyen, an old friend of hers. Orwen also wanted to see Opencilla (Orwen's nanny in the past, who became the commander of Queen Sephir's army), she crossed the border, and wandered into O'dyllita, where she was attacked by the Fallen Ones. Although she was saved by Sephir's soldiers, an armed conflict broke out between the Ganelles, and Ahib. The Lemoria guard spread the news that Orwen was taken captive by the Ahib, and they came to save her. But actually they used Orwen's situation as a scapegoat to justify their invasion. The real reason for their intrusion into O'dyllita's territory was Brolina's (Queen of Kamasylvia) "wolf", a Luthragon named Hyruphis, who was roaming the lands of O'dyllita, searching for earth symbols, and researching old Gyfin Rashia ruins. He was trying to make an alliance possible between the Ganelles, and Gyfin Rashia. The Ahib wanted to hunt the Luthraghon down, to foil Brolina's plans. Thanks to Opencilla's orders Orwen was freed, she also learned the name of her father. (She didn't know she was the daughter of Caphras). But she was caught by the Ganelles, and transferred to Grandiha for interrogation. When questioned by the queen, Orwen tried to explain that she wasn't attacked by the Ahibs, actually the Fallen Ones were the ones trying to kill her. She cleared the misunderstanding by explaining the differences between the Ahib, and the Fallen Ones (Fallen Ones are Ahibs who became mindless monsters). The Ganelles, and Fadus who died during the border conflict, weren't killed by Ahibs, they had nothing to do with it, because they long withdrew from that area. But this didn't change the queen's and her companion's opinion about the Ahib. Because of her immature, and thoughtless behaviour, Orwen was banished from Kamasylvia again, but this time by Brolina. | Quick question about Kzarka vs Blackstar Progresion Posted: 10 May 2021 05:39 PM PDT IM curently at 273/324 Succ zerk using TET BS. Although reaching this lvl of gear, im still quite confused about some stats and how they work due to game having shitloads of "hiden" mechanics and its hard to realize some stuff without seeing numbers etc.. Using bdo planner i already have a path in my mind for the DP part as for zerk its kinda straightforward , have to work on pen armors, then narcs/disto. When it comes to MH, i was wandering at which point or at what lvl of caphras Pen Kzarka gets better for PVE than TET BS? IM gona have to do a swap sooner or later as pen BS just doesnt seem realistic since i dont enhance and dont have the stacks for it to even try. Thx! [link] [comments] |
